C. Eugene Hoover

November 30, 1928 — March 12, 2016

C. Eugene Hoover, 87, of Kecksburg died Saturday March 12, 2016 peacefully at the farm, surrounded by his family. Born January 22, 1929 in Cook Township, he was the son of the late Charles and Irene (Ulery) Hoover. Eugene was a lineman for West Penn Power, and the Founder of the Hoover Farm. He was a member of Laurel Highland Coon Club, Pleasant Valley Grange, Honorary Director of the Bullskin Township Community and Westmoreland Fair. Eugene was also a member of the Pleasant Unity United Methodist Church, a 4-H Leader and a member of the Marion Lodge 562 for 48 years. After retirement he enjoyed being a figure caller for square dances at Alwine. Eugene was an avid hunter, fishermen and in his younger day he enjoyed going north to camp. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Louise (Faith) Hoover, brothers Elmer and William, daughters Audrey, Patty (Howard) Hayes, son in law Jim Johnson and grandson chad hoover. Eugene is survived by his wife Cora (Rugg) Hoover, sons Earl Hoover of Ligonier, Jim Hoover and his friend Pam of Kecksburg, and daughter Vicki Johnson of Tarrs. Eugene was proud of his grandchildren Angie (Andy) Cmar, Adam (Stacy) Hayes, Abe (Michele) Hayes, Kelly (Dave) Myers, Jessica Hoover, Symanthia (Kyle) Temple and Andrew Johnson. He was especially proud of his great grandchildren Reed, Cole, Emma, Clay, Levi Hayes, Madison and Bailey Hayes, and Gunner (Boomer) Temple. He is also survived by many stepchildren, step grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received 2-9p.m. Tuesday in Jay A. Hoffer funeral home, 2245 Mt. Pleasant Road, Norvelt 15674. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Reverend William M. Pieringer. The interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Kecksburg. The family would like to thank Bethlen Homes Hospice of Ligonier and his niece Susie Summy for the care she provided. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Laurel Highland Coon Club for Chad Hoover Scholarship Fund 1102 Greenlick Road, Mt. Pleasant PA 15666.
