Irene Balchik Zema 88, of Mt. Pleasant passed away peacefully Thursday May 25, 2017. Born in Gates PA (Fayette County) November 4, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Clay Balchik. Prior to retirement she was self-employed as a driver instructor. Irene was a member of Visitation Catholic Church of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by loving husband James W. Zema, and sibilings Dorothy Grindle, Genevieve Fenchik, Richard Balchik, and Charles “Babe” Balchik. Irene was the loving mother of two daughters Karen Zema of Mt. Pleasant and Kimberly Paxton and husband Bruce of Norvelt, a loving grandmother to Aaron Zema of Mt. Pleasant and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received in the Jay A. Hoffer Funeral Home, Norvelt, Monday 2-4 and 6-8pm. A parish wake service will be held at 3:00pm Monday in the funeral home. A blessing service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday at 9:15am. Following her funeral mass at 10 AM in Visitation Catholic Church, Mt Pleasant with Reverend Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant. She will be laid to rest following her funeral mass in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
