James "Whitey" J. Brodak, 81, of Norvelt, passed away Monday, July 15, 2019. He was born March 18, 1938, in Mt. Pleasant, son of the late John and Mary Tlumach Brodak. He was a veteran of the Army. Whitey's hobbies included horseshoe pitching, baking and gardening. He was a dedicated fireman for Norvelt VFD for more than 50 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Golkosky); brothers, Michael Brodak (surviving wife Norma) and Frank Brodak and deceased wife, Glenda. He is the loving father to David (Sue) Brodak, of Apollo, and Pamela (Mark) Coward, of Hecla. He is also survived by siblings, Dorothy Sterrett (deceased husband Roy), John (Isabelle) Brodak, Mary (Jim) Osborne, George Brodak, Annie (Rob) Randolph, Joanne (Mike) Konek; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt. His funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in St. Florian Catholic Church, with the Rev. John A. Sedlak as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Norvelt VFD "Building Fund," Box 173, Norvelt, PA 15674.
