James J. Novotny Sr., age 87, of Norvelt, passed away peacefully at home on December 28, 2024 surrounded by his family. Born March 14, 1937, in Whitney. He was the son of Elizabeth and John Novotny. He was a loving and kind husband of 66 years to his wife Theresa. Jim loved attending local sporting events, had a great love of music and above all, had a lifelong devotion to our Lord.
James worked as a portrait artist as well as a sign painter for several local grocery stores. In 1972, he began to work for Standard Steel in Latrobe as a shipping yard clerk. He retired in 2002.
He is survived by his beloved wife Theresa (Rocker) Novotny and their five children, Cindy (Gary) Imbrogno of Pittsburgh, James Novotny Jr of Norvelt, Kevin (Lisa) Novotny of Williamsport, Renee (Mike) Exler of Hatfield, and Mary Ellen (Jim) Wright of Wheeling, WV; his nine grandchildren, Jake, Julia, Chelsea, Ryan (Lexi), Zach, Grant, Jared, Grace, and Luke; and great-grandchildren Paisley and Sutton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Jack Novotny, a grandson Ian Wright, and two infant sons.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 4pm until the time of vigil prayers at 7:45pm at HOFFER WILT FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 10am in St. Florian Church, with Rev. John A. Sedlak as celebrant. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH.
