It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of James "Jim" Koch Vaughn on March 16, 2025, after a valiant battle with health issues, surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Rachel Ruth Koch and James Cyril Vaughn; his beloved wife of 43 years, Beverly Goetz Vaughn; his cousin, Elizabeth (Sr. Leah) Wolf; and his cherished fur children, Gretchen, Danny, Snowflake, and Gremlin.
He is survived by his children, Gregory James Vaughn (Neva Fe), and Kelly Vaughn Hubble; his grandchildren, Kyle Matthew Vaughn, Jason Christopher Vaughn, Alexander James Hubble and Shannon Elizabeth Hubble.
Jim graduated from Carnegie Tech in 1962 with a degree in electrical engineering and went on to build a successful career, retiring in 2007 from his position as an Electrical Engineer at West Penn Power.
A man of deep faith and community involvement, Jim served as the treasurer and deacon at Middle Presbyterian Church and as treasurer of the Westmoreland Philatelic Society. He was also the postmaster for the Appalachian Wagon Train.
Jim had a passion for learning and sharing his love of history and tradition. He found great joy in his many hobbies, including genealogy, stamp collecting, watching backyard wildlife and traveling.
A devoted sports fan, he never missed an opportunity to attend Pittsburgh Pirates games, especially spring training, or to cheer on the Johnstown Chiefs hockey team. His children have childhood memories of many trips to Canada and visits to cemeteries and libraries to do genealogy research.
Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his kindness, wisdom, and enthusiasm for life will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Friends and family will be received at Hoffer Wilt Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 and from 6-8. Funeral services will be held at Middle Presbyterian Church on Saturday at 10 am. Interment will be in the Middle Presbyterian cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Stage Right for the performing arts (he enjoyed seeing Alex’s shows there) or the Top Dog Therapy Team (he loved being visited by Kelly’s teams after an outing). stagerightgreensburg.com
