Jeannette “Mac” Hile, age 98, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, at Newhaven Court at Linwood. Born on June 3, 1926, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Anna (Myers) McElroy.
After graduating high school, Jeannette attended Indiana State Teachers College (IUP). Jeannette spent her career nurturing young minds as an elementary teacher in the Mount Pleasant Area School District, where she was beloved by students and colleagues alike. Her passion for education and her gentle spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
A woman of many interests, Jeannette found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid reader and enjoyed challenging herself with crossword puzzles. A devoted fan of Pirates baseball. Her love for nature was evident in her delight in feeding birds, and she found peace and purpose in her church activities at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Trauger, where she was a cherished member.
In addition to her parents, Jeannette was preceded in death by her husband William Clay Hile, her son David William Hile and daughter Marcia Lynn Hile Fearer, and sister Eleanor Faye Jones.
She is survived by her children, Nancy Jane Hile, and Robert Clay Hile, her grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Fearer Harris, Alison Leigh Hile Hocker, Lindsay Nicole Hile, Joseph Daniel Fearer, great-grandchildren Jaxxon and Meliyah Harris, Ada and Jack Hocker, and Madison Fearer, and her brother Leonard Clair McElroy. Her warmth, kindness, and gentle humor will be remembered by all whose lives she touched.
Family and friends will be welcomed on Monday, December 2 from 3-7pm at the HOFFER WILT FUNERAL HOME, 2245 Mount Pleasant Rd, Norvelt. All are invited to attend funeral services on Tuesday, December 3 at 11am in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Trauger. Everyone please meet at the church. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery.
