Jerry M. Chirdon, 75 passed away peacefully with family by his side, April 1, 2016 at Excela Latrobe Hospital. Born March 25, 1941 in Pittsburgh and was the son of the late Andrew Michael Chirdon and May Kathryn Chirdon Bowers. He was formerly employed at Union Apparel where he worked in the cutting room and previously employed by Permali Mt. Pleasant. Jerry was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic church, Trauger; United Slavonic Association, Amvets Post #94 of United where he served as Honor Guard in the marching unit and honored fallen comrades in military funerals, and also a member of Norvelt Volunteer Firemen’s Club. He enjoyed all sports and certainly was a sports enthusiast. Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step father Joseph Bowers and step siblings. Jerry was the gentle and caring husband of 46 years to Barbara Cholock Chirdon. He is also survived by siblings Douglas (Ellen “Jean”) Chirdon of VA, Thomas (Lois) Bowers of Mt. Pleasant Township, Vernon Bowers (Judy) of Norvelt, brother in law David (Stella) Cholock and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and Friends will be received 3-7 pm Monday, April 4 in JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, 2245 Mt. Pleasant Rd, Norvelt, PA 15674 The Parastas service will be held Monday at 3pm in the Funeral Home. Panachida Service 9:10 am Tuesday in the funeral home followed by funeral liturgy 10am in St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church with Reverend Paul- Alexander-Shutt, O,S,B as celebrant. Jerry will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery Trauger. Military rights will be accorded by the Armbrust Veterans Association following his funeral liturgy Tuesday.
