Joanna Barnhart

Joanna Barnhart, of Norvelt, died Saturday, December 28, 2024, at her home. Born February 28, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Hale and Anna (Lohr) McQuilkin. Joanna met her beloved husband, Robert E. Barnhart, when he was 19 and she was 15 and they were married for 64 years. She graduated from Indiana High School. After their children were grown, she worked as a secretary for many years until retirement. In retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband in their RV. She was a member of Pleasant Unity United Methodist Church and collected and restored antique dolls throughout her lifetime. 

She is survived by four children, Barbara (Edward) Iwaniec, Robert A. (Stacey) Barnhart, Bonnie S. (John) Pipak, William Barnhart (Mary Beth Hilland); her grandchildren, Robert Seth Barnhart; Abby (Pipak) and Lenny Mohan and their child Hunter Mohan; Matthew and Amanda Iwaniec and their children Charlotte and Bennett Iwaniec; Cori (Barnhart) and Caleb Adcock and their child Alaina Adcock; John Michael and Sarah Pipak and their children Max and Sophia Pipak; Daniel Iwaniec; Angela (lwaniec) and Robert Marshall and their children Theodore, Gwendolyn and Nadia Marshall; and Anthony “Mikey” and Kristen Pipak; her sisters-in-law, JoAnne, Virginia and Sally McQuilkin. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was the last surviving member of her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert Barnhart, a grandson, Jeremy Barnhart; siblings, Theodore McQuilkin, Jane Sealand, George Benjamin, and Thomas McQuilkin; and a nephew, Bryan McQuilkin.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the HOFFER WILT FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 4, 2025 in the Pleasant Unity United Methodist Church, Pleasant Unity, with the Rev. Adam Sweigart officiating.
