John G. “Jack” Adams, 82 of Armbrust passed away Wednesday October 17 2018. Jack was born May 27, 1936, the son of the late John Adam and Anna Boytim-Adam. Jack was a graduate of Hurst High School, where he played quarterback for the Hurricanes. He attended both Carnegie Tech and St. Vincent College, graduating with a degree in Business Administration. Jack went on to work as a store manager for the W.T. Grant Company, managing stores throughout the Midwest. He also worked as a regional salesman for IBM; based in Morgantown WV. In 1972 Jack realized a lifelong dream when he opened Adams True Value Hardware and Lumber in Youngwood, PA. For the next 44 years, Jack and his son Dave served the community, providing hardware and expertise to help customers with their do-it-yourself projects. Jack loved to golf and was a loyal and lifelong fan of his Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, Pitt Panthers and West Virginia Mountaineers (but ONLY because all five of his children attended WVU). He had a warm and infectious personality, was a friend to all, and never met a stranger. Jack is survived by Theresa Urbanowski-Adams; his loving wife of over 61 years. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, son Mike and spouse Patti and their daughters and spouses; Katie and Mark Fletcher and Rachel and Michael Holt; son Dave and spouse Cheryl; son Steve and spouse Jennifer and their children Nick and Tim; son Paul and spouse Cassie and their children Ally and Joe and daughter Angela Martorella and spouse Chris and their children Liz, Alex and Vince. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by in-laws Joseph Urbanowski and Catherine Ulishney-Urbanowski. Family and friends will be received 2-4 and 6-8pm Friday October 19, 2018 in the Jay A. Hoffer funeral home, Norvelt. A Parastas service will be held Friday at 6pm in the funeral home. A funeral liturgy will be held at 10am Saturday at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic church with Reverend Regis J. Dusecina officiating. Interment to follow in St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Trauger. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions should be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
