John Thomas Evans, 100, of Norvelt passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015 in Tanner Medical Center, Carrollton, Ga with family by his side. Born October 31, 1914 in Brinkerton, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Evans. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine; special companion Ann; daughter, Joanne; sisters, Elizabeth, Mary, Ann, and Pauline. He was a member of St. Florian Catholic Church, United and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Carrollton, GA. John was the loving father to daughter Judith McClellan and her husband Donald of Villa Rica, Ga; loving grandfather to Ian (Kara) Fink, Kristen Scarborough, and Jennifer (Andrew) Pepper; great grandchildren Dylan, Kayleigh, and Jacob. Also surviving is his son in law Jeffrey Fink; sister Ethel and numerous nieces and nephews. John graduated from Hurst High School where he had played football. He attended classes at Penn State University. Prior to retirement in 1979, John had been employed at Robertshaw as a foreman in the quality control department. Family and friends will be received 6-8 p.m. Saturday and 12-2 p.m. Sunday in the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, 2245 Mt. Pleasant Rd., Norvelt, 15674. Transfer prayers will be 9:15 a.m. Monday in the funeral home follow by his mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Florian Church with Rev. John A. Sedlak as celebrant. Interment to follow in St. Florian Cemetery, Trauger. A vigil service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
