John V. Gyurke, 88, of Greensburg, passed away Monday, September 22, 2014 in Greensburg Care Center. Born May 21, 1926, in Nettleton, he was a son of the late Michael and Julia (Kozar) Gyurke of Nanty Glo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Virginia A. (Garber) Gyurke on September 22, 2010, brothers Joseph, William, Stephen and Michael , sisters Mary, Elizabeth, Anna and Margaret. He was a member of the former Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, Trauger. Prior to retirement in 1990, John had been employed as a painter by Westmoreland Hospital. John was the loving father to Darlene Rhoades and husband Alvin of Norvelt, David Gyurke and wife Francine of Ruffsdale, loving grandfather to Jennifer Rhoades of Jeannette, Jason Rhoades and wife Krystal of Irwin; great grandchildren Shane and Tori. Also surviving brothers Jim Gyurke and wife Rita of Mt. Pleasant, Wilhelm Gyurke and wife Marcella of Nanty Glo and several nieces and nephews. He was a wonderful father and grandfather. Family and friends will be received 3-7 p.m. Wednesday in the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, 2245 Mt. Pleasant Rd., Norvelt, 15674 where his funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday with Father Peter Augustine Pierjok, O.S.B. officiating. Interment to follow in Forty Martyrs Cemetery, Trauger.
