LaVerne C. Klaka (Klejka), 93, of Mt. Pleasant Township (Mammoth), passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, at her home. Born March 12, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Sophia Cieslak. She continued to own and operate Klaka Farms, and it was her life. LaVerne's passions were raising her family, making pierogies, cooking and showing hospitality. LaVerne loved to travel, making nine trips to Poland, of which three she was privileged to be in the presence of St. John Paul II. She was a member of St. Florian Church and its Altar Society and the former St. Stanisluas Church and its Rosary Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Andrew; brothers and sisters, John Cieslak, Mary Kovach, Anna Klejka, Milton Cieslak and Thomas Cieslak; infant grandson, August Valentine Puskar; and grandson, David Adam Klejka; son-in-law, Robert Lawrence; daughter-in-law, Barbara Klejka. She was a loving and devoted mother to her children, Andrew J. "Peeps" Klejka and Paul J. Klejka, at home, MaryAnn (Leonard) Monticue, of Mt. Pleasant Township, Anthony Sr., of Somerset, John (Sharon), of Mammoth, Thomas, of Derry, Helen (Richard) Barchesky, of Acme, Pauline (Charles) Murray, of Mammoth, Monica (Stanley) Puskar, of Latrobe, and Bernadine (Richard) Obusek, of Mt. Pleasant. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and sister-in-law, Ann Klaka, of Greensburg. The family would like to thank Connie Bankovich, who lovingly cared for our mother for the past two years. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt. Vigil prayers will be at 7:45 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. Friday. Transfer prayers will be at 9:10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Florian Catholic Church, United with Father John Sedlak. Interment will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
