Mary Ellen Casteel Stairs Poole Haas 95 of Norvelt passed away Monday November 12, 2018. Born May 20, 1923 daughter of the late Victor and Elizabeth Casteel. She was a member of St. Florian Catholic Church, United. Mary Ellen was a retired teacher from the Diocese of Greensburg. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and her flowers. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband’s Merle Stairs, John Poole and Ed Haas. Mary Ellen is survived by her six loving children Victor Stairs and wife Dolores of Pittsburgh, Leonard Stairs and wife Mary Jane of Lancaster, Elizabeth Hart of Norvelt, Mary Jo and husband Richard Oppel of Danville, Fred Stairs and wife Angel of Michigan, and John Poole and wife Kathleen of Acme. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, sister Barbara Lou Oleyar, brother Carl Casteel and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received 4-8pm Thursday November 15, 2018 at Jay A. Hoffer Funeral Home 2245 Mt. Pleasant Road, Mt. Pleasant PA 15666. Vigil Prayers will be 7:45pm in the funeral home. Transfer prayers will be 9:15am in the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be Friday at 10am in St. Florian Catholic Church, United with Reverend John A. Sedlak as celebrant. Interment to follow at St. Vincent Roman Catholic Cemetery in Latrobe.
