Richard Donald Kunkler, 86, of Pittsburgh, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015 in Lewisville, TX. Born November 19, 1928 in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Jean (Wilson) Kunkler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Lawrence Jr.. Richard attended Wilkinsburgh High School and enjoyed working with his father at Kunkler & Nobs Grocery Store. He married Dorothy Lorraine Heide on August 17, 1950 in Trauger. He attended Findlay College and the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to retirement, Richard worked as a General Manager for Kroger Co.and a Restaurant Manager for Marriot Corp., prior to beginning his longest tenured position as a supervisor in the IHOP system. For 34 years he was associated with Linda Pont Corp. and VCM Corp. touching and influencing the lives of many. He later enjoyed working with his daughter in helping to supervise an IHOP franchise. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the Army where he was awarded the Occupation Medal in Germany as an Artillery Chief. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Flower Mound, TX. Richard is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughter Sandra (David) Streett, sons Donald (Louanna) Kunkler and Richard (Noelle) Kunkler; grandchildren Jonathan, Jason, Lindsay and Patrick Kunkler, Jennifer and Jeffrey Streett and Dakota Saunders; great grandchildren Emily Kesler, Reagan and Andrew Penner; a brother Arthur Kunkler, and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received 6-8 p.m. Friday in the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, 2245 Mt. Pleasant Rd., Norvelt, where his funeral service will be 12 noon with Rev. Eric E. Dennis. Interment to follow in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Trauger. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
