Richard P. Solomon, 89 of Norvelt, passed away peacefully with family by his side, Thursday, February 9, 2017. Richard was born May 14, 1927, the son of John and Veronica Harvan Solomon. He was a member of St. Florian Catholic Church, United. A veteran of the US Army, he served during WWII. He retired from the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County where he worked as a mechanic and he formerly owned Solomon’s Service in Norvelt. He was a past member of Norvelt VFD. A favorite pastime, he was an avid Bingo player at St. Mary’s in Trauger. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by sisters Margaret Yucas and Maryann Raishart and brothers Thomas and Joseph Solomon. He was a beloved husband to his wife of 62 years, Mary Kindelan Solomon and loving father to his children Kevin (Annette) Solomon of Mammoth and Mary Sue (Marty) Maghakian of Charleston, SC. Additionally, he is survived by his grandchildren, Jacob Solomon, Mallory (David) Palmer, and Anne Marie Maghakian, great granddaughter Brooklyn Palmer and numerous nieces and nephews. Richard will always be remembered as a compassionate and selfless man who always put others before himself. He always had a great sense of humor and brought a smile to everyone he knew and met. There will be no visitation, but the family invites family and friends to join them for his funeral mass, 10 am Monday in St. Florian Catholic Church. Please go directly to the church.
