Virginia Louise " Ginny" (Pelar) Stevens, 86, of Tyler, Texas, formerly of Norvelt passed away Friday, October 24, 2014. She was born November 18, 1927 in United, a daughter of the late Peter and Anna (Kendi) Pelar. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Robert H. Stevens in 2009 and a brother John E. Pelar. Ginny served as a teacher at various elementary grade levels both as a substitute and full-time classroom teacher in the Hempfield School District and for most of her career in Mt. Pleasant Area School District. Her proudest moments came when she could teach her Norvelt School first graders to read! Ginny was a member of St. Florian Catholic Church, United, their Altar Society and Norvelt Mother's Club. She was survived by three children Jeannie (William "Bill") Jones, Dr. Robert "Robbie" (Lisa) Stevens, Mary Ellen (Dr. Thomas) McCloskey; six grandchildren Ryan Jones, BethAnn McCloskey, Victoria Stevens, Jason McCloskey, Matthew Stevens, and John Stevens. Family and friends will be received 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, 2245 Mt. Pleasant Rd., Norvelt, 15674 where her transfer prayers will be 9:15 a.m. Tuesday followed by her mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Florian Church with Rev. John A. Sedlak as celebrant. Interment to follow in St. Florian Cemetery, Trauger. A vigil service will be 3:15 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
