Wanita Rae Miller

d. December 14, 2021

Wanita Rae Miller, 77, of Kecksburg, went to be with our precious Lord Jesus on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born July 25, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Metcalf and Gladys (Lilly) Metcalf, of Connellsville. She was a graduate of the Connellsville High School Class of 1962. After graduating, Wanita worked as a seamstress at Connellsville Sportswear, sewing pockets onto pants. A few years later, she was introduced to the love of her life and her best friend, Daniel Dale Miller (b. 1947), of Kecksburg. They were married in 1968 and remained faithful to each other in holy matrimony for over 53 years, until his passing in 2021. Wanita eventually left her job at the clothing factory to focus all of her attention on being a stay-at home mom to her two sons, Chad William Miller (b. 1980) and Shawn Oliver Miller (b.1985) In addition to her role as a homemaker, Wanita loved crafting. You would regularly find her sitting at the kitchen table with a hot glue gun, creating her own beautiful decorations for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her imagination and creativity had no limits. She designed (and sewed herself) Halloween costumes for her sons during their school days at Norvelt Elementary. Anything from Super Mario to Dick Tracy to Superman, they were some of the most creative outfits of the entire class. She was such a nurturing person with an immense motherly instinct. She was forever willing to take her sons to their baseball and football practices and games or to karate class, or just to take them and their friends shopping or to the movies. Wanita always loved the holiday season. She loved to bake cookies and she was an official Christmas Around the World seller in the late-80s, early 90s. She greatly enjoyed planning and organizing parties at her home in Kecksburg, whether they be at Christmas time or during the summer months. Wanita was rarely seen without her camera. She loved to capture those special moments on film to enjoy later. One of her favorite activities was digging through the totes of photos she had taken over the years and sharing special memories and stories of loved ones and days gone by. In her later years, she was content just to sit with Daniel and listen to Gaither Christian music and watch Gunsmoke and Hallmark Christmas movies. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband and caring companion of 53 years, Daniel Dale Miller, of Kecksburg Wanita is survived by her two sons, Chad William Miller, of Kecksburg, and Shawn Oliver Miller and his wife, Lindsey Nicole Miller, and one grandson, Dexter Logan Miller, all of Ligonier. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia (Metcalf) Moore, of Connellsville, nieces, Belinda Mulhorn, of Greensburg, Marla Stout, of Mt. Pleasant, Darla Byers, of Scottdale and Brenda Lessman, of Connellsville; and many great nieces, nephews, great-great nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received in the Jay A. Hoffer Funeral Home, Norvelt, Friday December 17, 2021 5-7 P.M. Wanita's funeral service will be Saturday December 18, 10 A.M in the Funeral Home with Rev. David L. Greer officiating.
