Wayne W. Brinker, Sr., 95, of Hunker, passed away peacefully Monday, July 7, 2014 at his home. He was born June 27, 1919 in Hunker, a son of the late John W. and Marie (Overly) Brinker. Prior to retirement Wayne was employed as a millwright for Walworth Valve Co., Greensburg, and self-employed in Brinker Block Co. along with his family. He was a Veteran of the Army, serving during WWII as a Staff Sargent in the 88th Infantry Division. Wayne was a member of the Armbrust Veterans Association, the United Slovak Club, and served as a past board member for the Sewickley Creek Association. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Melvina (Updegraff) Brinker in 1984, a son, Donald, in 1987, brothers Billy and Eugene Brinker and a sister Ruby Ahlborn. He is survived by his children, Catherine (Jim) Yuhouse, Wayne "J.R." (Mary) Brinker, nine grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, two sisters, Georgetta Hollis and Mary Jane Sillaman, a brother, John (Kay) Brinker, and his very special friend Norma Heide and her family. Friends and family will be received 2 – 4 and 6 – 9 p.m. Thursday in the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, 2245 Mt. Pleasant Rd., Norvelt, 15674 (HofferFuneralHome.com) where his funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, with the Reverend Dr. Dale L. Porterfield officiating. Interment to follow at Youngwood Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Armbrust Veterans Association. The military will hold their service 10:45 a.m. Friday, in the funeral home. The family would like to thank Excela Hospice, Medic 10 and Norvelt EMS for their care and service.
